Biography
James Emmett Farnan joined Fox Chandler as an associate in 2023. His primary areas of practice are criminal defense, matters in juvenile court (both dependency and delinquency), education law, and school discipline proceedings. After admission to the Georgia Bar, James was an Assistant Public Defender in Hall County, Georgia, mainly practicing in Juvenile Court representing children, but also he represented adults accused of felonies in Superior Court. James has represented individuals accused of various crimes ranging from traffic tickets, school discipline issues, drug possession and driving under the influence, sexual offenses, and attempted murder.
While at Emory University, James participated in the Barton Center for Child Law and Policy's Policy Clinic, Legislative Advocacy Clinic, and Juvenile Defender Clinic. James attended undergrad at Morningside University in Sioux City, IA, where he ran track and field, played football, and was an avid member of the Morningside Civic Union.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, James, his wife Emily, and their two dogs Bess and Babs spend their time relaxing at home, exploring North Georgia, and enjoy being members of the Gainesville community. James previously coached youth sports with Gainesville Parks and Recreation and is a member of the Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association. James is a tenacious criminal defense lawyer and dedicated advocate for children, who enjoys reading, watching college football, and spending time with his friends and family.
